Do we have to belong to the church?

No. The church hosts the units. Families do not have to be members of the congregation.

What does it cost?

National Capital Area Council’s published membership fee is $165 for a full year. The pack or troop may add local dues for badges, camping deposits, and supplies. Ask about assistance — cost should not keep a Shepherd Park kid out. See how joining works.

Can girls join?

Pack 24 is for boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grade. Troop 24 is listed as a boy troop after that.

Where do you meet?

Northminster Presbyterian Church, 7720 Alaska Ave NW, Washington, DC 20012. Parking is on Alaska Avenue or the church lot.

How many nights a month?

The pack is built around grade-level dens plus a pack gathering. The troop aims at a weekly meeting and a monthly overnight. Exact days are confirmed by email until they are published on the public calendar.

Is this the church youth group?

No. The units are independent programs hosted by the church. Families do not have to be members of the congregation.

Do we need uniforms on the first visit?

No. Come as you are. A parent stays in the room.

When are Pinewood Derby, camping, Scouting for Food, and Wreaths Across America?

They return every year: Pinewood Derby in late winter, camping in fall/spring/summer, Scouting for Food in November, and Wreaths Across America in December with a January cleanup. Exact dates are in the family portal. The public list is on the calendar.

What is Scoutbook?

Scoutbook is the official advancement system. This website is a public companion, not a live Scoutbook login. After a youth is accepted, a leader invites the household.

Can we visit first?

Yes. That is the usual first step. Details are on the visit page.

Is financial assistance available?

Yes. NCAC says financial support is available, and units can help with local dues. Ask an adult on the visit page before you decide not to come.

What ages can join?

Pack 24: kindergarten through fifth grade. Troop 24: after Cub Scouts, typically around age 11 through 17.

Will my child’s name or photo appear here?

No. This site does not publish youth names or identifiable youth photographs. Private schedules stay in Scoutbook and leader email.
